Thank you for your interest in High Adventure.  This is our pilot year but we have lots of experience with teens and backpacking.  We are excited about the possibility that your child could be part of this wonderful camp.

The cost of $40.00 covers food, transportation, and some gear for the entire week.  Along with the Registration Form, please include $20.00 per child as a deposit.  You may send in the whole registration amount.  Any balance will not be due until the first day of camp, June 28.  Checks may be written to FSBC.  

Things to Know

Schedule:  We will meet at First Southern Baptist Church on Monday and Tuesday from 9:00am – 4:00pm.  During these two days, we will learn important backpacking skills and do some day hiking.  On Wednesday, we will meet again at FSBC before leaving for three days on the trail.  We should be back to the church by supper time on Friday.

Clothing:  For the most part, we recommend long pants but not jeans.  Shorts expose us to more bugs, briars, and nettles, but the tradeoff may be worth it in hot weather.   We insist on a hat of some sort.  T-shirts are fine.  We may see some cooler than normal days so bring a long sleeve T-shirt, a sweatshirt, or fleece for just in case.  We’ll provide rain ponchos.  Hiking boots are a must.  They need not be waterproof but they will see water and mud.  Sandals and open-toed footwear are forbidden on the trail but can be very comfortable around the camp site. 

Cameras:  Highly recommended!  The campers can trade photos, post them on our website, or even get them published in the Sun-Gazette.  You’ll have to decide what kind of camera to send along.  Obviously, we can’t guarantee its safety.

Backpacks:  Frame packs with 2500-3000 cubic inches would be ideal.  Internal or external frame will suffice, but there must be a supportive frame with a comfortable waist belt and shoulder straps.  We have some suitable packs that may be perfect for your camper so don’t go out and purchase something unless you’re reasonably sure that it will be used again.

Parent Participation:  Parents, we’d love for you to make the trip with us.  You need to be in good health and able to walk a long distance for several days in a row.  Chronic knee or back problems will be aggravated by this activity. 

Food:  We will provide snacks, meals, and drinks (mostly water) and water bottles.  Please don’t bring chocolate, soft drinks, or sports drinks. 

Miscellaneous:  Each camper will need to bring his/her own insect repellent and sunscreen.
